Women, Business, & Tech

Women’s business and empowerment events often overlook the digital tools and strategies that are necessary to advance our careers and grow our businesses. It’s time to change that and normalize technology planning and strategy in our discussions about business. This panel session will feature a candid discussion about women’s relationships with business and technology between leaders in very different fields: Dr. Lisa Richardson, a business technology strategy consultant, Stacy Blakely, a civil engineer, and Kimberly Dove, a Fulton County Schools board member.

Franchise Ownership: A Tool to Address the Racial Wealth Gap

Our discussion will focus on how franchise ownership has played a role in Black wealth creation through the years since the late sixties and early seventies. The movement of Black franchise ownership began after the unrest of the late sixties. Government policymakers and corporate moguls reasoned that creating high profile Black business people in urban areas would serve as role models. It was also believed that the new business would replace the burned-out storefronts and blighted buildings with new buildings and the revival that would follow. The first franchisors to step up to the plate were in the fast-food industry. Of those, McDonald’s was the most visible. There were others that followed such as Burger King, Burger Chef, and various others. This was a time the franchise industry began taking off. The disappointing thing was that Blacks did not seek or were not offered opportunities for other types of franchises in different industries. The good news is that the franchise industry is now coming to the rescue in a similar time to the earlier racial unrest and with a desire to address the racial wealth gap. So let’s talk Franchise ownership.

Boundaries are a Woman’s Best Friend:
Dress up Your Language to Scale Your Impact

If you are ready to elevate to the next level of your career or business, having boundaries and enforcing them must be as common as changing clothes. When you lack boundaries in your business and life, you underprice, overwork, hang out with the crowd that plays small, and wish and hope things change. You feel taken advantage of by your colleagues, kids, partners, and more. But not when you have language and confidence to be clear and productive. Dress up your language and voice to scale up. Master the art of decision making with public speaking. Use your voice to gain clarity, tell your story, and set yourself apart.
